Applique

Fabric which is sewn by hand or machine on top of another fabric to make a design.

Backing

Backing: Fabric, physician either whole or pieced, used for the bottom layer of a quilt.

Batting

The middle layer of the quilt made of cotton, and wool, or polyester.

Bias

The cut of the fabric at 45 degrees to both lengthwise and crosswise of the fabrics grain lines.

Binding

Strips of fabric used to enclose the three layers of a quilt.
